Abstract
The current essay highlights the most outstanding events which mark the historical development of teacher training in Panama, since the nineteenth century to the present. We present in a detailed
and precise manner the role played by education teacher training institutions since the colonial era and the significance of the work they have done. Reviews and recommendations are provided to
enable the reader to reflect on the changes that are necessary to train professional educators with personal and professional skills, which are required to function effectively in new learning
environments.
