Abstract

Ethical banking is an innovative option in the financial sector that seeks to generate both economic and social benefits, and is governed by ethical principles and values in its financial operations. The objective of this research was to evaluate the impact of ethical banking on the economic development of Panama under policies to reduce social inequality. The research adopts a documentary approach, based on the exhaustive review of books, articles and relevant documentaries on the problem, the level of research is explanatory, with a bibliographic design. Data collection was carried out through documentary analysis, selecting and critically examining relevant studies, reports, books and academic articles. The study focuses on financial institutions that practice ethical banking, in order to understand how their policies and practices can affect economic growth and the reduction of social inequality in Panama. As a result, the study indicates that ethical banking can have a significant impact on Panama’s economic development, especially when considering sustainable policies to reduce social inequality. By financing social and sustainable projects, promoting equal opportunities by offering accessible financial services to excluded groups, and supporting entrepreneurs and small businesses to develop responsible businesses. In conclusion, ethical banking is presented as an innovative and responsible alternative in Panama, to efficiently contribute to closing inequality gaps, thus aiming at economic development.
