Abstract

The objective of this study was to analyze the prevalence of Covid-19 infection in health personnel at Hospital Dr. Arnulfo Arias Madrid in the period from March 20 to August 20, 2020. A retrospective, cross-sectional field investigation was carried out using a census sample that included all the health personnel infected in the period studied. Considering variables such as age, sex, risk factors and work areas and the dichotomous variables referring to the use or not of hospital biosafety standards. Statistics: Prevalence of period, chi square for association of risk factors and sex and chi square to establish application or not of the in-hospital biosafety standards. Results: The prevalence of the period was 0.13. The chi square for the involvement of health personnel in relation to sex was 1.44. That is, it is independent of sex. The chi square of compliance with the norms was 0.35. In other words, the biosafety standards are not 100% met. Conclusion: Covid-19 infection was independent of sex; the age most affected corresponds to the group from 28 to 47 years old. The areas that were most related to becoming ill from Covid-19 were nursing, administrative and medical personnel. Getting sick from Covid-19 in the hospital is directly related to the type of exposure the staff is exposed to and the implementation of biosafety protocols. There are no elements that scientifically support the fact that health personnel who fell ill with Covid-19 have acquired it in-hospital or in their community environment.
