Abstract

The World Health Organization defines the social determinants of health (SDH) as “the circumstances in which people are born, grow, work, live and age, including the broader set of forces and systems that influence the conditions of life everyday”1. The deficiency triggers greater vulnerability to people to present COVID-19.2 The objective was to determine the relationship between the social determinants of health and COVID-19 in Dentistry students of the National University Federico Villarreal Lima, Peru. The methodology was a cross-sectional, descriptive and correlational study in 332 students. The variables were analyzed in measures of central tendency or frequencies according to their nature. Spearman’s correlation coefficient test was used. The significance level was p ≤ 0.05. For the collection of information, two validated questionnaires were implemented, one to evaluate the social determinants of health and the other to evaluate COVID-19. Among the results are presented: It was found that 51% of the students, the income of their parents does not allow to cover the needs of the whole family; 65% of students do not have health checks. Among the conclusions is that there is a positive correlation between the biological social determinants, lifestyle, health system and environment with COVID-19.
