Abstract

In order to investigate the factors that affect the absenteeism of nursing staff in the Internal Medicine ward of the Dr. Gustavo Nelson Collado Hospital, during the first half of 2019, a quantitative investigation was carried out in November 2019, with a sample of ten (10) collaborators who work in this room. To collect the data from this non-experimental descriptive cross-sectional research, the interview and survey were used, which allowed us to conclude that 70% of the staff have little work experience less than five years and of them, the 80% have been absent at least five times in the semester and 20% from 5 to 10 times, 60% are absent due to illness and 100% recognize the impact that the absence has on the work team where corrective measures they are minimal. This fact highlights the need to implement a plan to improve worker health, favoring a better quality of life at work and, consequently, better user health care.
