Abstract

This study focuses on the analysis of necrodactyl prints and fingerprint comparisons from public documents in Panama. This ensures the authenticity and identification of individuals, even in situations where the prints on these documents are partially or completely damaged. This has implications for legal certainty, fraud prevention, and identity theft, where accurate identification is essential for validating legal documents, such as public records, contracts, and wills. Alternative methods and complementary technologies for identification will be evaluated, such as the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) and those from the Electoral Tribunal of Panama, which also implements database systems for verifying fingerprints in voter registration records. The ultimate goal is to ensure accurate and reliable identification, even when the prints have been affected by the decomposition of the body, guaranteeing the authenticity of the documents and protecting legal certainty. The research seeks to optimize identification processes in Panama, considering the difficulties posed by necrodactyly, due to the alteration or loss of fingerprints as a result of postmortem decomposition.
