El Canal de Panamá en la mira: Controversia, economía y turismo en tensión

Abstract

The purpose of the article was to analyze the perspective of the tourism sector in Panama regarding the international controversy over the neutrality of the Panama Canal and its impact on the tourism industry. A descriptive and analytical methodology was applied, gathering data from various sources through document review, interviews, and brainstorming. Key findings indicated that the controversy led to an increase in North American tourists and highlighted Panama’s diverse attractions beyond the canal. Additionally, the international perception of the conflict influenced the country’s image. Overall, the article concluded that while diplomatic tensions may create uncertainty, Panama could strengthen its image as a destination of peace and cooperation, diversifying its tourism offerings to reduce dependency on the canal.
