Abstract
Violence in social relationships, both in gender equality and also within the family, constitutes a great impediment to human progress, affecting the quality of life and causing preventable deaths. The purpose of this research was to analyze domestic gender violence against women in the community of Alto Ortiga, province of Veraguas, Panama. A quantitative methodology with a descriptive approach was used to describe the current situation and propose preventive solutions. The most relevant findings indicate that domestic violence is a serious problem, especially in rural areas, exacerbated by alcohol and drug consumption. The interpretation of these results highlighted the need to implement education, awareness and empowerment programs for women. The main conclusion of the article emphasized the urgency of public policies and intervention programs that promote gender equality and protect victims of domestic violence because in the family environment it has devastating consequences for the physical, mental and social health of the victims, affected . also to their families and communities.
