Abstract
Mining is an activity that has had a strong economic impact in Panama, but has also left a significant footprint on the environment. The general objective of this research is to evaluate the economic-environmental impact from mining activities in Panama. To achieve this objective, a quantitative methodology with an exploratory transectional design has been used, which allowed the collection and analysis of a set of relevant economic and environmental data, including key indicators, related to economic growth and employment generated by the mining industry. In addition, the impacts on biodiversity were analyzed, how mining activity affects the public health of the communities and delved into the mining cycles and the types of exploitations carried out in the country. The results that emerge from this research offer a perspective on mining and the formulation of policies associated with the sustainable development of the country, its impact on both the economy and the environment in Panama. This balanced approach between economic growth and environmental preservation will promote a more sustainable and prosperous future for the country and its people.
