Abstract

Breast cancer in the Azuero region has a high percentage in adult women, who after collecting data and medical consultations with at least 96 breast cancer patients, and among the factors, we can mention the highest incidence are: genetic factor, lack of mammography control for early detection at 40 years of age, lifestyle, such as the consumption of fried foods of more than three servings a week, are the main causes of breast cancer in the region from Azuero. The objective of this article was to describe the situation of breast cancer in the Azuero Region. Regarding the methodology used to obtain information on the topic raised, the type of study was used: descriptive, with a non-experimental design, with a qualitative approach; The population included the cases from 2023 at the national level and the sample included the cases from 2023 in the Azuero region, with a type of non-probabilistic, intentional sampling. To collect data, the bibliographic review technique was used with its information matrix instrument. For data analysis, tectonic criteria related to the topic of breast cancer were used using Microsoft Word software. In addition, we can mention that in the findings of said research we have that, in the population nationwide in 2023, there were more than 570 new cases of breast cancer, which have been treated until August 2023, at the National Oncology Institute, With a total of 1,351 mammograms and the sample in the Azuero region of 2023, 68 mammograms and 16 ultrasounds were performed. This disease, however, currently, about 60% of patients admitted to the National Cancer Institute in advanced stages of the disease. This is where the most important shortcomings are observed in the fight against breast cancer in Panama, such as the lack of information in society about the importance of early cancer detection.
