Abstract
This research project seeks to study the effects of noise on the health of workers who operate heavy equipment. Noise is unwanted sound generated by human activities, which can have negative effects on health. Exposure to excessive noise levels in the workplace can affect workers’ health. According to the ILO, hearing loss due to exposure to noise in the workplace is one of the most common occupational diseases. However, this is not the only problem, people can get tinnitus (ringing, hissing, buzzing or murmuring). The effect of noise exposure is called sensorineural hearing loss, that is, deafness, which is irreversible since it is associated with damage to the cells of the organ of Cortien in the inner ear. A heavy machinery operator is a person who is in charge of managing the equipment that is used in various sectors such as the construction industry and the transportation of large loads. When carrying out these tasks, workers face many risks, among which we can mention the lack or deficiency of maintenance of the equipment, overturning of the equipment due to terrain conditions, and electric shocks. Other manifestations of noise can be effects on the cardiovascular system with alterations in heart rhythm, endocrine glands with pituitary alterations increasing the secretion of adrenaline, increased stress, mental alterations, difficulties with observation, concentration, and performance, facilitating accidents.
