Abstract
The purpose of this article was to investigate how dysfunctional attachments, known as “painful attachments”, impact mental health. A qualitative methodology based on documentary review was applied to analyze studies on attachment theories and their relationship with emotional health. The findings highlighted that early experiences of insecure attachment can lead to difficulties in emotional regulation and interpersonal relationships in adulthood, increasing vulnerability to disorders such as anxiety and depression. This suggests the need for early interventions to promote healthy relationships from infancy. In conclusion, understanding and addressing painful attachments is crucial for improving emotional well-being and promoting healthier relationships across the lifespan.
