Abstract

The purpose of this article was to evaluate the impact of environmental conditions on the decomposition of cadavers in Panama, aiming to improve the accuracy of post-mortem interval estimation and develop forensic methodologies adapted to different climatic environments. A mixed methodological approach was applied, combining qualitative and quantitative analysis through direct observations, sample analysis, and expert interviews. The results revealed that climatic conditions significantly influence the rate and pattern of decomposition, with faster decomposition occurring in humid climates and open environments. The need to adapt forensic models to local conditions was identified for more accurate estimations. The main conclusion of the article is that considering the spatial and temporal variability of environmental conditions is crucial for enhancing post-mortem interval estimation in forensic investigations.
