Abstract

In addition to the transmission of electricity in alternating current (AC), there is another alternative which is the transmission in direct current (DC). Therefore, this research studied the feasibility of building an HVDC electrical transmission line in Panama. The bibliographic sources on HVDC electrical transmission lines were consulted and the article was written highlighting, in the brief theoretical and conceptual development part, important aspects presented by some authors in the bibliographic sources consulted. HVDC overhead transmission lines become more economical from a distance of 600 km, so it is not feasible to implement this type of HVDC system in our country, apart from the fact that there is only one company responsible for electrical transmission and the cost of an HVDC substation is very high and is not offset by the savings in high voltage cables used throughout the entire network.
